Carry it with you. The Go Network offers the Go Express Search, a downloaded application that integrates into both your browser and your taskbar for a much improved search experience without going to a search site.
I started using this service recently, and I must say I am quite pleased.
The Express Search basically searches other search engines. This is not a new idea, but I like the way Go goes about it.
The first feature I found to be outstanding was the speed with which you receive results. I mean this sucker was fast. The speed is partly the result of the fact that any of your chosen search engines which does not return its results promptly is not included in your results list. However, you can chose to go ahead and get the results that take longer if you are not satisfied with your first set of results.
The next really nice feature is the category listings. Down the left side of the search window you have a list of categories, and can search within those categories using topic specific searches.
For example, in the category of downloads you type in what you are seeking and can choose to use any or all of the following to find your download: Download.com, ZDNet Software Library, FileMine.com, Tucows, or 32bit.com. I really like the work they have put in to the relevance of the search sites.
There are a wide range of search options, including my favorite, Search Within Results! I can tell you I will not use search engines on a regular basis if they do not have search within results as an option.
One really cool feature is the Highlight feature. In each result on the search page, as well as on the sites themselves, the relevant words are highlighted very visibly in bright yellow.
Go.com Express search is my first stop for all searches, because I am certain that one is more likely to find what it it they are looking for here than anywhere else. It is also the simplest most pleasant search experience on the net in my opinion.
The download is super fast, just a few seconds, there is no loss of space for people who use a reasonable screen resolution, and there are even cobranded versions available for website owners.
My recommendation is to give this one a try and find out for yourself. In fact, I recommend making your first search for your own name, you may be surprised how many results come back!
