Lycos wasnt my first choice of search engines but i gave it a crack once because i went to check out there free SMS service. What can I say about the actual search engine section? Well it certainly gets the job done solidly and always gives a good amount of reasonable results although as with any search engine theres still the legendary mixture of complete useless suggestions in there!
As for the layout? Well I quite like it. Theres the standard search box at the top along with the advanced search option. Under this though theres a handy box which reports on some latest news and even better theres a section which gives you links to the Lycos services, some of which are very good.
Lycos deal in their own chat, their own free web based e-mail service, free internet access, online games and also amongst others their most popular one with me, the free SMS mobile text message service. Like DooYoo's you type in the message it tells you how many characters youve got left (its a slightly standard 130 with Lycos) and put the number in and send. Ive used it quite a lot, my initial reaction was it was bad but ive used it a lot since and with only the occasional message not getting through apart from that it gets through pretty instantly as far as i can gather.
Certainly worth saving the 10p a message it costs me on me phone.
