Why We Went It was time again to visit "the kids." My son had some business in the Seattle area. He suggested while we were there, that we check out Mount Rainier National Park. How could I argue? Where We Stayed Daughter in law (DIL) ...
Pros: Scenic drives, variety of nature trails, well-maintained facilities Cons: Volcanic eruption possible at any time
Mount Rainier is a commanding landmark even in the Pacific Northwest, a region renowned for its dramatic natural beauty. Rising to an elevation of 14,411 feet, it is one the United States' highest and most majestic peaks. Its lower slopes are covered...
Pros: Absolutely beautiful Cons: The weather can be unpredictable and treacherous.
It has been over a quarter of a century since I first set eyes on her and yet that memory is as vivid today as the day it happened. It was early August in 1973 and I was 18 years old, fresh out of high school and bound for college. I had left East...
Pros: great scenery, great wildflowers, great hiking Cons: crowds, but they are bearable
I have traveled all around the country to pursue my hiking passion. In August of 2005 my travels lead me to Mt. Rainier NP for the first time. I was not disappointed with my visit to this great national park. I drove to MRNP all the way from Buffalo, ...
Pros: breath-taking views Cons: We didnt stay the night there!
Mount Rainier is always there, wherever you go in Western Washington. It's magestic peaks can be seen from all over. We spent two years out here before we finally got the time together to make the trip to see it firsthand.
Pros: Beautiful scenery, easy access, good camping facilities, wildlife abounding. Cons: Not enough campsites, becomes crowded on weekends.
I have lived in Washington (state) since 1979, but a lot of that time was spent in Eastern Washington, around Spokane. I had seen pictures of Mt Rainier and thought I would like to visit it someday. After I got married, I ended up moving to Western...
Pros: The most famous Washington landmark Cons: crowds, long drive
I wanted to puke. Here I was, 9,000 feet up the northern shoulder of majestic Mt. Rainier, Washington, and I felt like spilling my cookies all over the nice, clean snow. Some climber!
Our group of ten Air Force members were on a climb,...
Pros: peaceful drive, a lot to see Cons: none that I can think of
My daughter and I played hooky from school one spring day to make the trip with my mom. We packed some sodas and sandwiches, and made sure we were prepared with cameras and film.
I'm always impressed with the forests of the Cascades. They...
Pros: Spectacular Views, Glaciers, Great Hiking, Wildlife, Giant Trees Cons: Not enough Camping Areas, Slow Winding Roads, Crowded
Mt. Rainier National Park is a place that I hold dear and a place that everyone should visit. There is no site quite like the one of this soaring 14,411 ft. buttress of a peak. It is especially impressive when viewed from outside the park, most notably...
Pros: A classic climb Cons: Not particularly fun...
What possesses a person to spend 3-4 days trudging up endless slopes of snow and ice, shivering in freezing temperatures at night while being baked by UV rays during the day, just to reach a place where it's hard to breathe and the winds are trying to...
Pros: Outdoors, inexpensive, clean Cons: Limited resources for prudes
Located in Washington's South Western Corner, Mt. Rainier is a spectacle to behold. We flew into Portland, OR, but Seattle, WA is about the same driving time to the Paradise Entrance to MRNP.
This past summer I visited Colorado, Utah, Yellowstone, the Tetons and Yosemite. Nowhere did I see a more magnificent mountain than Mt. Rainier. Driving out of Seattle you can see it towering over the land and you think it's not real, just a strange...
If you are looking for a place to go while you are in the Washington state area, I would definitely recommend Mount Rainier!! We just went on a family trip to Washington and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Mount Rainier. The great thing is that you...
Pros: great views, lush Northwest nature, wildlife views Cons: cold and cloudy
It is quite interesting that if you go to the Mt Rainier page on Epinions, there are no opinions not recommending it, at least so far. Assuming that everyone who wrote an opinion has visited the national monument, it would be safe to assume that everyone...
Pros: Awesome Glaciers Cons: Snow at higher elevations so dangerous and wet if you don't wear proper clothes and shoes. But if you're prepared, this is a pro.
The first time I saw Mt Ranier was from my airplane. We sat on the right on our flight up from California and flew right by Mt Hood, Mt. St Helens and Mt Ranier. It was awesome - a great way to start our trip to Mt. Ranier and we were glad we got to the...
Pros: It doesn't get any better than this Cons: Maybe a little too cold for some
Bottom line...this place is heaven. Large craggy mountains waiting to be traversed, the lush green valleys dotted with pristine ponds, and the clouds surrounding the peak almost 24 seven; sounds like it's straight out of a fairy tale, but its not. Its...
Imagine waking up to a view of Mt Rainier out your front door. It's just awesome, and beyond words. As a matter of fact everywhere you go you see it, it follows you!
The park is even better. It's been many years since I've been so I don't...
One word. Paradise. God must have spent five of the six days at Mount Rainier. Vast Meadows. Beautiful sturdy trees. Alpine Lakes. Mount Rainier has everything. Nice easy strolls to climbing to the top of Mount Rainier. I highly recommend...
Pros: Beautiful park! Awesome mountains and views Cons: Weather is very moody
My wife and I climbed Mt. Rainier on July 21-22. When you come in to the park, you are taken up by the enormosity of Mt. Rainier. It doesn't look that tall (over 14,000 ft.), but instead it just looks big! If you plan to climb and summit like we did,...
Pros: Beautiful sights, full of things to do. Cons: None.
The park is not only beautiful and full of sight to see, but is full of fun things to do. I have just recently been there in the past month, i was there to do some back-country snowboard, which was excellent. There is many things to do in every season, from backpacking, to building snow caves. This park is full of beautiful views also. From a giant bridge where you can look straight up the path of a glacier to the mountains top without even getting out of your car. This park is beautiful and i recommend visiting it to anyone.
