The car
It's taken you so long to get this project done that I hope everything works up to your expectations. It should be fun!

RE: The car
yeah, it should be fun. things are coming together very slowly, but as always there are cost overruns and delays. for some reason aeromotive discontinued production of the off and on rail honda 1:1 fprs, so if anybody has them they are almost double what they used to be and I'd rather go with a pinhole in the oem than pay $200 for a freakin regulator. meh. a/c is finally back together and holding a charge, tho still not blowing cold, ima flush the system and see what happens, then prolly swap the compressor if it still holds a charge but ain't cold. Black leather and black interior + texas summer (100+) = not fun for 8 months out of the year. and the little things have been holding us up too, they had been waiting on a bead roller before they finished the charge pipes (25# and straight cuts don't mix)

It's go time
the car is running well (well being relative, it's running uber rich) and the dyno is set for monday or tuesday, whenever the shop can fly or tuner up from houston. They finally powdercoated everything they said they would and it looks fairly nice. It SOUNDS fantastic and doesn't seem to be kicking at all when revved, so, we good for now.
The orings were not sitting flat at all. They were supposed to be .005 over deck but were sticking out like the rocky mountains in between the cylinders, so now they have been stoned, a new gasket was mfr'd by a local machine shop (no such thing as a "stock" F22b2 gasket . . . in an 89mm bore).
whew, what a long, strange, exhausting, exceedingly stupid, exasperating, expensive, kill-joy, let-down experience this has been. Maybe this time when i say I will post dyno sheets, I actually will. I will say this much, i miss the interior, I loooooove the smell of new leather! |

Getting a custom headgasket can't be cheap. I guess these people know when you're so far into a project that there's no going back. I'm sure curious to know how the dyno test works out.

RE: It's go time
yeah, the machine shop did a fairly impressive job and even added the appropriate fire rings to conform to the o-ring. Also, per Dan benson, they are adding an excessively strong adhesive to both sides to aid in sealing. Now all that's left is for them to reweld the flange and collector and plug all the damn pinholes.
Well, the dyno time is tomorrow at noon, but it's a ways away so driving that far with a base map and boost cut set for 2lbs ought to be interesting.
It's been a long road. I will post album access after tuning. Cross your fingers. |

401whp/456wtq more tuning today around 11, there were some electronic and ignition issues that got worse as the day went on.

RE: It's go time
Yeah, the shop wants to sponsor me and drop in a GT35Rbb and shoot for 600. I am not too hip on this plan, even if they are footing the bill. I haven't driven my car for months, i want it back. i will think about it, but another motivator has come into play, SuperStreet is hinting they want to do a 6 page shoot. . . . hmmmmm
dyno charts and videos to come ....yeah, I know, I've said that about 12 times now..... :(
-edit - oh yeah, turned out the plugs were too cold and getting fouled. The plug wires were severely interfering with the Romulator preventing in car burn because of massive emi leak. new wires, and 5 hrs with an oscilliscope later, all is good, just waiting to fly the tuner back into austin to "finish" the tune. I use quotes cause it's pretty much street tuned, but the fuel maps need to be stepped and refined |

RE: It's go time
well, we have had gremlins all over the place and now that we have tuned them all out it has become clear that at the voltage it is receiving, the fuel pump is only going to do a safe 15#.
Soooo, at this point Ima looking at 321whp/327wtq at 15psi.
It'll work, road testing was a little sketchy, it will spin the wheels well into third... uuuhhh yeah, so even with the quaife it's getting a little sideways, but its fun, and I now have a grocery getter than runs in the high to mid 11s. Not bad.
first two pics, the bay and dyno chart (i had to trace to make it come up on film) were teh day of tuning this past monday, this time a dyno jet not a dyno dynamics.
enjoy...
