Carpeting

Beware when you buy carpet, especially if someone else measure s the rooms for you. I called EMPIRETODAY.com to come to my house and show me some carpet samples and give me quotes. The guy came a week later. I had measured the room the day before exactly because I wanted to get price quotes from nearby stores first.
This sales sleaze shows up with his samples. Measures the room by himself without any help with a flimsy tape measure. After my wife and I choose a carpet and color we like we tell him to order it up- after he had quoted us a GENERAL price.
He goes to his car to get his order form and starts filling it out rapidly without saying a word. I ask him if he can stop to tell me what price he is arriving at for the subtotal. He tells me $1900+ tax. I didnt get that at all and pulled out my calculator. He says "oh, I made a mistake its not as big as I thought its 11 square YARDS (almost 100 sq.ft). He recalculated his MISTAKE and came up with $1400+ tax. A $500 simple mistake huh?! A man that measures rooms every single day gets it off by that much by mistake? I dont think so!!
I told him to leave and I didnt want anything.
So beware these carpet salesmen, mine happened to be from EMPIRE so watch out for them. Hire a kid or handyman to measure your room(s) for you if for some reason you dont know how to measure a room. You will save yourself money by NOT getting ripped off.
I ended up going online and purchasing a carpet wholesale from S&S Mills for $500 less "installed". So all in all its $1000 savings from the sleazy salesman's original quote!!
I even got better carpet pads than the one the sleaze recommended that he says "everyone buys foam"- that's just a bold faced lie.
So Good Luck saving money when you order
carpet from these people and their loser salesmen.
;-)

RE: Carpeting

I agree with Bob. Thanks for the tip.

I'm sure it will come in handy soon because we're thinking about new carpeting.

RE: Carpeting

I'm glad I'm not the only dissatisfied customer. I had a very disappointing experience with window treatments. Would not recommend this company to my worst enemy.

EmpireToday

My girlfriend (gf) had out a saleswoman (sw) from EmpireToday. The sw showed samples of Shaw carpet, my gf chose one and the sw measured the rooms. I told the sw to make sure she left all the necessary specs on the carpet before she left. She wrote up a contract that was incredibly vague only saying total prices and some carpet collection names. There was no mention of brand of carpet, square footage, pad specs, etc. My gf had set up an appointment within 3 days ( odd how EmpireToday pushes fast install like they wanted to do the work before buyer's remorse sets in ). I was skeptical about the sw not leaving any pertinent info. I email shaw about the carpet collection names that I couldn't find on Shaw's website. They replied that they would need lot numbers, colors, etc., all info that sw did not leave. Gf contacted sw and asked for an itemization which the sw faxed the next day. The contract of course states that it does not cover anything not specifically in the contract. Gf decided to go ahead with install against my protestations. EmpireToday advises one to be home for the install to inspect the merchandise. My gf was leary enough to be there herself and check. Installers came with much cheaper carpet and pad than she had been shown. She asked the installers if it was Shaw carpet and they said they thought it was EmpireToday's own manufactured brand. My gf canceled. Make sure you get EVERYTHING you think you are getting itemized and that you are there for the install. I felt it was a bait and switch scam and would never buy carpet from EmpireToday
