No, I'm Not Dead

I have been gone from the site and pretty much everything else since the beginning of September. As some of you might know I had a foot ulcer. It ended up going septic and I almost died from it. That isn't a joke or an exaggeration, when the EMT's arrived they thought I was already dead. Needless to say, it was a huge ordeal that landed me in the ICU for 7 days, a BTK amputation and a completely new outlook on what the meaning of life really is. I am still in a rehabilitation center learning to walk again and waiting for my "stump" (the non policticially correct word) to shrink up enough to get a casting made for a prostetic.

What's the meaning of life? I don't know for sure but I have a new appreciation for each and every day that I wake up and see the sun shining. Thanks to everyone that called, sent text messages and sent me sugar free gummy bears. Sometimes its the smallest of things that mean the most.

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I've seen your screen name around the site a lot when I first joined, then I wondered where you went.

I am so glad you are healing, but so upset about what happened.

I'll keep you in my thoughts...may you heal soon.

Julie

I also wondered where you were, thinking you had just written yourself out for a while...so sorry to hear of your ordeal and hope you have a very quick recovery...

it really is a revelation when you start to rethink what is important in your life and how important your basic health is, nothing else really matters when you come down to it.

Best wishes
Barbara

hey there freak...

...
Wow. Those of us that only 'know' you through the site can certainly join in with our own 'smallest of things' to wish you a speedy recovery, if that is the right word, and a healthy 'adaptation' to your new circumstances.

Lets make sure you are following all the prescribed rehab steps, OK..??

Nice to see your user-name again.

...tom...

Whoa. Last I heard, you thought you had lyme disease (?). I'm sorry to hear this news. I'm so glad that you are improving and that you are still with us. I think of you often and have been wondering how you're doing. I sure do miss your reviews!

Edited to say that I wish you a very speedy recovery.

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I've missed seeing you around the Epinions site. I thought the initial ailment stemmed from a possible tick bite. So sorry to hear this news ... and very glad to hear you are recovering!!

Listen to all the doctors (hard as it is sometimes) and know that I'm sending good wishes your way.

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I've been wondering where you were! Thanks for the update. I'm sorry to read what you've been through but, hey, it's better than the alternative right?

I hope you are home and feeling much better soon.

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I am so glad you're still with us--what an ordeal for you! I've been wondering where you've been, figured you were resting after your bout with Lyme.

I'm sorry you're being dragged through this. I can only imagine what it's been like. You're in my thoughts, and I hope your new foot is a super-cool one. Bionic, even!

I'm so sorry to hear that you've had to go through this ordeal, and wish you the best of luck on a speedy recovery. Good to see you still have a sense of humor...that helps so much. God bless you and hope to see you back on Eps here when you are ready.

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I'm glad to see your name back online and did miss you r/r/c.

I, too, did not know the severity of your absence. Sorry to hear about the problems and glad to know you're on the mend. I'm sure it was scary. You truly were missed by more than you know.

:)

Glad to See You!

I was just thinking maybe the 10-4-10 finally burnt you out.

I realized without you I don't have many K&F stuff to read ;)

I am glad you checked in, though I wish with better news.

Glad you are still HERE and finding the blessings in life .....

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I was wondering where you were as well. You're usually right there rating reviews around the same time I am. I hope you heal quickly!

Hi Freak,

First off, I just want to explain, for those not familiar with the term, that a "BTK" amputation means a leg amputation "below the knee".

What can I say to someone who has been through a near-death and dramatically life altering experience like that? I am sure that this event has had, and will continue to have, a profound effect on you.

Diabetes can be a terrible illness and I wish you didn't have to suffer with it.

I can picture, at some point, a Write-off being done in your honor, to support Diabetes Research. What do you think?

Tks for Letting Us Know

Hugs Freak. Very sorry to hear about this. Very glad that you survived it. Also - thanks as I will eat what I'm supposed to with tri levels over 500. I would like to ignore those numbers, but your story reminds me that I better not.

RE: No, I'm Not Dead

I have missed reading your reviews --- particularly all things Hello Kitty. I thought maybe you were taking a break, and am sorry to read the circumstances of your absence. I only know a little about you from what I can glean from your presence on this site, but you strike me as a strong, balanced woman who will meet any challenge like a warrior. Thinking of you and wishing you the best.

Thanks for the update,
Megan
