Opening I stayed at the Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel over the four-day Easter weekend in the UK--Good Friday and Easter Monday are national holidays. I did not know this before I visited and it turned out that this was a very good litmus ...
Pros: Great location, impressive landmark building and opulent interiors. Cons: Unpredictable restaurant opening hours and lack of atmosphere due to corporate image.
This hotel opened a couple of years ago, to great interest. the Pearl Assurance building on High Holborn had been converted to a hotel, and the times described the result as one of the most exciting hotels in the world. Such a bold claim couldn't help...
Pros: Very well appointed, top-notch service, excellent central London location Cons: Very pricey without a discount rate. Tough to get to Heathrow on Sunday morning.
I stumbled upon Marriot's Renaissance Chancery Court looking for a simple hotel where I could spend one night in London. After browsing several travel sites, I looked back at the hotel loyalty program cards I had, and compared the offers on the various...
Pros: Very nice hotel for the price, modern amenities, Tube station a block away Cons: Breakfast and other extras are expensive, rooms are a bit corporate
This hotel was such a great find that I almost hate to let the rest of the world know about it. It is located in a wonderful old building that once housed an insurance agency. You enter off a busy street into a lovely courtyard that is apparently ...
Pros: Excellent service, safe, quiet, central location Cons: A bit expensive
The hotel is in a large stone building on High Holborn, a few blocks from the British museum. It took a bit of time to get there from Paddington by taxi, but once there, we were one or two stops on the tube from almost all of the museums and churches. St. Paul's, the Tower, London, Bank of England, British Museum a short walk, the Tates, the Courtauld, you name it, it was easy access. The linens were fabulous, the laundry was expensive, but our clothes have never been treated so well. The staff was unobtrusive, but entirely prompt and helpful. We wanted to go to a show and they took care of it on the spot. The Pearl Restaurant was, again, on the expensive side, but extremely good, with delicious innovative food and excellent service -- possibly our best dining experience in our six nights in London, a tie with the Hunan over in Chelsea. The hotel surrounds an inner courtyard and keeps a doorman at the street entrances at all times. I have never felt safer staying at an inner city hotel.
Pros: Smart, comfortable, quiet, and convenient. Very friendly staff. Toblerone in the front desk bowl Cons: Price of food
Spent 8 days on vacation with my wife and 16 yr old daughter (8/06). I travel a lot on business and as a family we are used to upscale hotels. This is one of the nicest hotels I have every found. A Life Insurance company headquarters converted to a hotel (you'd never know it); this granite building is wonderful, comfortably appointed, and quiet!
The hotel very quiet. We never heard any sounds from the street.
The Holborn Tube station is a couple of hundred feet down the street which opens all of London to easy access. The British Museum is an easy walk away as is the shopping of Covent Garden area. There's a grocery store nearby too.
Book ahead and great prices can be had. We got a price of about 160 pounds. I have spent a lot more in London and been very disappointed. Not this time!
One consideration is the price of food at the hotel. The breakfast spread is wonderful but get it included in your package. We got it for 20 pounds for the family. Otherwise the tab would have been close to 50 pounds!
Pros: Friendly Staff. Central Location. Beautiful accommodation. Cons: None.
My wife and I Honeymooned here during the Queen's Golden Jubilee and World Cup. A great hotel, centrally located. Friendly staff, comfortable bar. If you live your life without going to the UK, I just pity you. Go. Now.
