On February 26,2006, I picked up a Black 2006 Toyota Tacoma SR5 DBL Cab 4x4 Long Bed. I read up on the Tacoma for several months before making this purchase to insure I made the right choice , with the right features at the right price. Let me first ...

The Good, the Bay, and the Ugly

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: styling, power, smooth ride, reliablity, good medium size
Cons: Toyota dealers, wind noise at speed, stock tires, paint
The Bottom Line: There is no "best" pick in trucks, so find the one that meets your particular needs best.

I have always liked Toyotas for their quality reputation, good ergonomics, and value beyond fancy features and gimmicks. I have owned 4 Toyotas in the past, an '85 Celica, then an '85 Supra, a '91 4runner, and an '00 Tundra. I also was issued an '88 ...

The Return of the Tacoma

by FridayFriday
Dec 03 '05 - Updated Jul 13 '08

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Smooth as silk powertrain, class-leading fuel economy...
Cons: Luxo-truck price but only 3/4 luxo-truck...
The Bottom Line: Straying from it's purest roots but by far still the best option for a mid-size, do everything truck.

Once upon a time... I'm on my 3rd Tacoma, which I'm both excited and a bit melancholy about. You see, when a vehicle does you well, it's hard to say goodbye. My first Tacoma, a 1994 extended cab V6 was ushered out with over 310,000 kilometers ...

Pros: Handling, quality, finesse and features.
Cons: None yet.
The Bottom Line: More than worth the price. You will be glad for many years. Buy the best and only cry once.

After driving a 1998 2.4 extended cab Tacoma for the last 7 years, I am now the proud owner of a 2006 Tacoma. It appears my 4 cyl. 2.7 access cab 2WD with standard transmission & SR5 package is rather unique in the southeast, as I had to beg and wait to ...

2006 Tacoma Access Cab 2WD Automatic

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: No factory defects in the first 7200 miles. Like the really tough composite bed.
Cons: OK, so it didn't meet window sticker mileage. Who's does? Speedometer 3 miles fast.
The Bottom Line: Top of the line, state-of-the art, best value. Got the dough? Go for it!

I concur with hildich who covers most of the essential points to justify his enthusiasm for a great pickup truck. No need to repeat the specs here. Wife and I have just completed a 7200 mile trip from San Francisco to Dayton, OH to deliver a 400 lbs ...

2006 Tacoma, The Good and the Bad

by theaterbuilder
Jul 01 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: powerfull, beautiful, 4 door with long bed, quiet, controls well placed. easily pulls a trailer.
Cons: Bad millage, 4Wheel actuator failed, anti lock brakes are scary, cruise control is poor.
The Bottom Line: The truck has its issues,I can live with them. The only small truck made with 4 doors & a long bed. Biggest draw back is the poor gas millage

I choose this truck, because I needed a small 4-door truck with a 6-foot bed, & of course, Toyota is the only company that builds such a product. I was also swayed by the promise of reliability and good mileage. The truck is quite powerful, easily ...

A Great Truck All Around

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Power, styling, reliability.
Cons: Highway ride is a little bumpy at times.
The Bottom Line: A superb truck. It has grown up and it has Toyota quality throughout.

We were in the market for a Toyota Tacoma Double Cab 4WD. We really didn't consider any other truck for 2 reasons: 1) The current state of fuel prices, and 2) I knew the reputation Toyota has earned for quality. I've previously owned 2 Toyota 4WDs, and I ...

no one makes a compact truck now

by sechott
Aug 19 '07

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 4.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: good looking and has plenty of room with access cab, cloth low dandruff cloth seats
Cons: O.M. tires are lousy, paint seems to be soft, big for a compact truck
The Bottom Line: If you want a truck to accompany you for the rest of your life you should consider the Tacoma.

I guess when the manufactures find there is still a compact truck market they will start making them again. With that said I love my Tacoma it is everything I need. Even though it has the 4 cylinder which I admit is weak but I didn't buy it to race to ...

Pros: roomy interior, storage, gas mileage
Cons: pricey, other than that nothing
The Bottom Line: I would say that if you're looking for a truck that you're going to want to keep forever then the 2006 Tacoma is it.

My husband and I purchased a brand-spanking new black 2006 Toyota Tacoma nearly three weeks ago now. We spent most of the day deciding what features we wanted and didn't want. Since my husband was the going to be the primary driver, he got to pick ...

Pros: Solid feel, great highway manners, reliable daily transportation.
Cons: Cold weather squeaks, paint scratches easily.
The Bottom Line: Vehicles are a personal choice. If you like the Tacoma, buy it.

After 32000kms I can say I am very pleased with my Tacoma. Comfortable, reliable, powerful with great on-road drivability and off-road/mud/snow capability. Every vehicle is a compromise of features, fuel economy and ability; for a mid-sized 4 wheel ...

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes

Pros: Excellent truck, time tested engine, great looking SR5 pkg.
Cons: I don't like the lack of being able to pick and choose options.
The Bottom Line: Very nice truck, backed by Toyotas proven longevity.

I just bought a 06 Yoda,SR5, 6spd, access cab, with trailer hitch. My first truck and first Toyota. Though not unfamilar with cars and trucks as I was a autobody tech for 30yrs. The fit and finish on my truck was perfect. One minor problem was the clock ...

Nice truck; handles great!
by locustkc

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: Handles/feels like driving a half ton truck very comfortable ride
Cons: The plastic composite bed
I have the '06 Prerunner, double cab, SR5/TRD off road model. Recieved more compliments on this truck than anything i have ever drove. Handles great. Towed a 2,500lb trailer with it. Good towing power. Used the 110 electrical plug built in the bed. Worked great while out building fences, kept the batteries charged for my cordless drill. Only issues I have had are a nail in a tire on the BF Goodrich M/S tires, the tire pressure warning system alerted me to low tire pressure, dealer repaired. And, at purchase in Nov 05, the front end alignment was out just a tad. Dealer corrected immediately. Overall, I am very happy with this truck! It is by far the nicest Toyota truck I have owned, this being my 3rd. It has great power, 4 speed auto, getting average 18.5 to 19.5 mpg. I recommend to those shopping for a medium size truck...

Disappointed

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 2.0 Recommended: No
Pros: Resale value
Cons: Not much of a truck
I finally bought a 2006 Tacoma Access cab 4x4 V6 automatic after exhausting other possibilities. The automatic (5-speed) constantly searches for the right gear, often downshifting while coasting downhill. The seats are uncomfortable for me (I'm 6-2, 175). Although this truck seems much more truck-like than the previous generations, the payload capacity is severely over-rated. With 5-600 pounds in the bed, the frame is down on the bump-stops. The rear springs creak, the base model (non-SR5) doesn't have intermittent wipers (my 1986 VW Golf had them!), the shocks are bouncy (at 10,000 miles) and feel like they need replacement, and the plastic bed limits your choice of racks and accessories. The V6 (doesn't come with the 4-cyl. as auto. access cab 4x4) gets 18-20 around town, but no better on the highway. Don't expect this truck to work hard. Looks like a truck though...

2006 Tacoma 2.7L Inline 4 SR5 Access Cab - Long Bed

Author's Product Rating: Product Rating: 5.0 Recommended: Yes
Pros: 4 cylinder that has tons of power for it's size and simplicity.
Cons: Vacuum assisted 4WD... I wish it had a shifter like the HiLux.
This is such a great truck... the 2.7l is an absolutely bullet-proof motor so far. I have just over 30k on my 06 4x4 Access Cab with 33" Goodyear MTR's and am still hitting the 20mpg mark - and still getting better than 16mpg while towing my 20ft boat at 65-70mph from Seattle to Idaho and back every summer. It slows on the mountain passes and I spend most of the time in 4th gear, but it seems to like the 3,000RPM mark... so I just run it.

I installed a K&N Intake system and noticed some good horsepower improvements.

Haven't had even 1 problem with it so far.
